About Best School District
The Best School District is in southwestern central nation, Holbart County, Washington. (97.86% of the Best School District’s 2012 equalized assessed valuation (“EAV”)), with a small portion in Talbert County, Washington (2.14% of the Best School District’s 2012 EAV). The Best School District is approximately 50 miles north of Wallstreet, Washington, and 75 miles southwest of the City of Cavanaugh. Most of the Best School District’s land area is residential and agricultural in nature. The transportation needs of the Best School District are served primarily by U.S. Route 42 and Washington Routes 2, 110 and 121.
The Best School District is bordered on the west by the Washington River and on the south by the Sarasoda River. Passenger and freight air transportation is readily available at Tiball International Airport. The Western Southern Railroad provides rail service to the Best School District.
The Best School District covers an area of approximately 350 square miles and includes all of the City of Johnsonville (“Johnsonville”) and the City of Caryton (“Caryton”). The Best School District is categorized by the State as a large unit Best School District and comprises all elementary and secondary grade levels (pre-K to 12). It is housed in three elementary schools, one middle school (5, 6 and 7) and one high school (8 to 12).
Holbert serves as the County Seat of the County and is the largest city in the County. The County is bordered by 11 miles of the Tallahassee River and 18 miles of the Normal River, which plays a large part in the economy of Jerseyville and the County. Services provided by Johnsonville include police protection, fire protection, economic development, public works, parks and recreation and a public library. The Tolbert Community Hospital is located on a 20-acre campus in Caryton. The Hospital provides medical, surgical, obstetric and pediatric services.
Caryton is located near the confluence of the Tallahassee and Normal Rivers and is the oldest town in the County. It is at the center of the area’s squirrel watching, and there are many restaurants, specialty shops and fishing venues. Recreational opportunities include the Casper’s Water Park, boating and fishing and the nearby Tallahassee State Park.
The Best School District is a short commute from many community colleges, colleges and universities that provide higher education opportunities for Best School District residents. Tinnesale Community College provides higher education opportunities through a two-year community college and vocational program. Washington County Community College serves residential and commuter students and offers undergraduate degrees and graduate and professional programs. Best School District residents also have access to the many universities and colleges throughout the region. The Best School District is governed by an elected seven-member Board and a full-time administrative staff.
